We know regular physical activity like walking can greatly reduce the risk of conditions such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and cancer. That’s why we are joining the American Public Health Association’s 1 Billion Steps Challenge. We’ve created a team called APHA Medical Care Section and Friends! so we can all enjoy walking together. Challenge duration
National Public Health Week, April 3-9, 2017 Prize Top TEN individuals who log the most miles overall for the week will EACH receive a $20 Amazon Gift Card. How to Step 1: Sign up to create a personal stridekick account by clicking here: https://stridekick.com/tc/apha. Step 2: You can now synch your device at "select your device" page. To allow for manual entry, return to the website in the first step now: https://stridekick.com/tc/apha. Step 3: Search for team APHA Medical Care Section and Friends! and click "JOIN TEAM". Step 4: Click "Manual Entry" on the upper left corner if you need to manually enter your steps. This is how you estimate how far you walk in miles (or fractions of a mile) without a step-tracking device: For example, a typical person walks at a pace of 3 miles per hour on average, and a typical person takes 2,000 steps per mile. So a typical day’s estimate could be as follows: 10 minutes, walking on daily commute 30 minutes, walking with colleague at work = 40 minutes or 2 miles + 3 miles during a workout at the gym Total for day = 5 miles Total steps = 5 x 2,000 = 10,000 steps Step 5: Done! Happy walking and have fun winning. Any questions, please contact APHA Medical Care Section Membership Co-Chair, Junling Wang, PhD, at [email protected]. Sincerely, The APHA Medical Care Section and Friends #NPHW #NPHW2017 #AyisyenanSante

Hello Fermin Chávez. We are glad that you are interested in this challenge. You can participate by yourself or with other individuals anywhere you choose (e.g., by walking around your neighborhood, to and from your job or school, or on a treadmill at the gym). Be sure to document the miles you walked as instructed in the post:
